ACTING LIFE!
Last summer, I shifted gears from writing my own projects, to acting in a feature film being directed by Christa Boarini. The film premieres at the Gasparilla International Film Festival on March 22 @ AMC Westshore 14, Tampa, FL.
Christa and I had crossed paths at the Fantasia International Film Festival/Frontières the year prior, and I was excited to act in this indie feature she was directing. Thanks Christa for letting me play in your sandbox!
LOVED the cast I got to hang out with. We had such a fun time. We became a family both on and off-screen. The crew was super good, and great fun! Special shoutout to my on-screen daughter Indigo, the lead and producer, for her hospitatlity and dedication. Amazing times, y'all!
Finally, big thanks to Sam Doumit who helped me do my pre-shoot actor's work (that I hope ALL actors who work on my projects also do... hint, hint!). Sam and I deconstructed my character's arc to align it with my own experiences and belief systems. I hope it plays well on screen to tell the story about my super independent, fierce, on-screen daughter, who makes a crazy, crazy decision to support her family!
The film does confront negative perceptions about Indians, but its main thrust is to tell a compelling story about a family's quest for dignity, respect, and the American dream, within the frame of a romantic comedy.
As a writer-director, this project gave me some incredible insights for executing my sophomore feature. I picked the brains of every department head! Brandon and Troy especially! I'm truly grateful to all!
Hope you get to check it out!
